Many Arab and international celebrities were present as the third edition of the Red Sea Film Festival got underway this week. The Red Sea: Honoree Award was given to India’s Ranveer Singh, who was hailed as “an all-around creative genius” by Sharon Stone. Ranveer made the highly contentious political decision to openly express his admiration for Johnny Depp, who was present, during his acceptance speech.

On the fringes of the festival, which is in its third year since Saudi Arabia opened up to the world this decade, Ranveer talked about taking over the Don franchise from Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in an interview with Deadline. He expressed his desire to add his personal touch to the “revered franchise” and acknowledged the honor of being selected as their successor. The actor’s most recent appearance was in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a critical and commercial success.
